This is the 18th post in the series "MIEExpert Spotlight for South Africa". The tab with all the posts can be found at http://bit.ly/1ZYy8Z7. Today we focus on two Cape Town MIEExpert Educators. Sharing effective classroom practices is what Judi Francisco and Keshma Patel do best. Both teachers are from Micklefield School, Cape Town. As Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts they are doing their bit as leaders of using technology effectively in the classroom. Recently, they both took part in a documentary called, Ex Frontiers, which focused on technology. The focus of the episode was on upcoming trends of using ICT in classrooms and was it aired on SABC 3 last week. Both teachers took viewers through what a day in their classroom would be like.
Keshma says: “What an experience for both myself and my class! We had a film crew at school for the day and the girls had the opportunity to practise their interview skills. It was even more exciting to see us all on TV! Creating tasks that enable my learners to apply, collaborate and be critical thinkers is the objective of every task or project that I use in my classroom. Being part of a school that allows you to be creative and take risks is what makes teaching at Micklefield such a pleasure.”
Judi says: “This was so exciting. The TV experience validated what we are achieving at Micklefield. To see how far we have come from simple computer lessons with 12 PCs just a few years ago, to now having rolled out a full blended learning program with teachers like Keshma, that are passionate and knowledgeable. It was wonderful to showcase our BYOD program and just what a success it has been. Seeing Micklefield up on the screen made me so proud of the journey we have been on to increase 21st century skills, develop a love of learning, have fun upskilling the girls and pushing the boundaries of how tech can enable our girls to be global citizens.”
"Both of us love sharing our knowledge and we are available for webinars, training and even a quick question or offer advice on your projects." Keshma and Judi
SchoolNet says congratulations to these amazing teachers from Cape Town!
